They took no time to get talking on the Canadiens who are currently having their worst season in franchise history so there's alot to talk about.
Hughes was asked about the Jeff Petry situation, in case you haven't heard he has asked for a trade. The Canadiens GM Kent Hughes is willing to grant the trade only if the right deal makes sense for both the team and Jeff Petry comes up.
The topic then switched to a touchy subject amongst Habs fans and the media: Habs 2021 first round pick defenceman Logan Mailloux.
Sources say that Habs executive VP Jeff Gorton, and Habs new GM Kent Hughes aren't as thrilled with Marc Bergevin's choice while he was the GM at the time.
Kent Hughes said: "Logan will have to improve as a person and in terms of human values, if he wants to put on a Montreal Canadiens jersey in the future".
Hughes also said "We know that Logan Mailloux has been taken over by the CHL and that he is moving in the right direction, but the fact remains that he took a big step in the wrong direction before he was drafted by the Canadiens".
It's clear that Logan Mailloux isn't too high in Jeff Gorton's or Kent Hughes' books right now.
Regardless what people think of Mailloux's mistake, he's a very talented young hockey player that could possibly become a franchise defenceman.
We have also learned from previous reports that both Dale and Mark Hunter from the London Knights have been working with Logan Mailloux and helping him with counseling and support.
The Knights have backed Mailloux since the beginning of the season when the Ontario Hockey League suspended him indefinitely. The Knights appealed the suspension and he was reinstated. His suspension was lifted in the beginning of January 2022.
Logan Mailloux is currently playing with the London Knights as a top defencemen, airing with line mate Kirill Steklov and hasn't disappointed.
