Free agent defenseman Ryan Suter is one of the biggest names on the market at the moment and is sure to sign his new contract in the very near future. Turns out he can apparently cross St Louis off the list.
The Blues were one of the teams we mentioned as a team to watch earlier this weekend, but it appears they are now heading in a different direction. In addition to what Strickland mentions above, some teams are willing to commit to Suter for four years. He's 36 years old right now and isn't exactly quick on his feet, so those third and fourth years are going to be a challenge.
Last season, the veteran had one of his worst statistical seasons in his career, scoring 19 points in 56 games. Was it a one-time occurrence? Is this the sort of thing that teams should expect? At the moment, that's the four-million-dollar question.
