As reported earlier this evening, the Habs traded defenseman Ben Chiarot to the Florida Panthers. In return, Ty Smilanic, selected 74th overall in 2020, heads to Montreal with a first round pick in 2023 and a fourth round pick in 2022.
Insider, Marc-Olivier Beaudoin mentioned, the important part of this deal is the first round pick.
It is not protected.
So, if the Panthers have multiple injuries next year and have a down season, the Habs could end up with a high draft pick.
Obviously, the chances are slim, but it remains an important line of trade, between the two teams.
It's a dream, but imagine if the Habs get the first overall pick next year with this and draft Connor Bedard.
