Since Erik Karlsson landed in California, things haven't gone precisely as planned.
An whole year of rumour culminated in a blockbuster trade that sent the perennial Norris Trophy contender from Ottawa to San Jose. But then the team's bottom fell out.
The Sharks reached the Western Conference Final in Karlsson's first season, but then plummeted off a cliff the next season. Since then, they've been trying to climb back up.
This is what Karlsson had to say:
"If they bring in someone new, we all know what that means. We're in a position right now where we haven't done very well for an extended period of time & we should feel a bit uneasy. Things are going to change, things are going to have to change."
Even Karlsson himself isn't too confident about the team keeping him.
