Teams can suspend unvaccinated athletes who are «unable to participate in club activities» is huge news. Local, provincial/state, and/or federal rules may prevent a player from travelling. Those who are excluded «forfeit the equivalent of one day's wages for each day».
It's a big deal considering the Canada/US border and the NHL's North American landscape. General managers were told about this potential at their virtual meeting in July.
Unvaccinated players who are not exempt for the above reasons will not be compensated if their club proves that their failure to comply with the protocol was «reasonably related» to their COVID-19 infection and/or illness.
I don't know how I feel about this. Why not just get vaccinated?
