The Toronto Maple Leafs are seeking for a right-handed centre for their third line next season, and free-agent to be Ryan Getzlaf of the Anaheim Ducks has been mentioned as a possible candidate.

The name makes a lot of sense, and Luke Fox of Sportsnet brought it up in his Mailbag this week. The hardest thing will be convincing him to commit to Toronto rather than his home state of California. If Getzlaf signs in Toronto, he'll have a lot to process. He has a young family, so he'll have a lot on his plate. The Ducks have been in frequent touch with the pending free agent, and if no extension is revealed, anticipate the Leafs to call as soon as possible.

Getzlaf's role in Anaheim was reduced last season. The Ducks have a young club that is attempting to adapt to the franchise's new age core. 'Getzy' had 17 points in 48 games last season and, with his skating skills, is perfectly suited for a third-line role and possibly some second power-play minutes.

With the additions of Joe Thornton, Jason Spezza, and Wayne Simmonds this past season, the Leafs demonstrated that they aren't afraid to bring in some elderly veterans. Expect them to be linked to Getzlaf this summer, and if he's willing to leave the California beaches, it may be a great fit!
