According to Sportsnet's Eric Francis, general manager Brad Treliving has nine weeks to decide on Gaudreau's fate. Here's how he expresses himself:
«On July 28 his modified no-trade clause kicks in, limiting the number of teams the Flames can swap with to the five clubs of Gaudreau's choosing.
To avoid being handcuffed much the way the team was when they essentially gave Jarome Iginla away, the Flames have nine weeks to decide the face of the franchise's fate.»
Some say that the Flames should start the season with Gaudreau on the roster and move him closer to the deadline, but that would limit the amount of suitors to playoff contenders, and with cap constraints, the Flames would miss out on a lucrative return.
When you consider that the expansion draught is on July 21 and the Entry Draft is on July 23-24, Treliving may only have eight weeks to make a decision on Gaudreau.
