According to Rob Rossi of The Athletic, the Pittsburgh Penguins' number one and number two priorities right now are to sign Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin long-term.
That would be the request of captain Sidney Crosby, who understandably doesn't want to be left alone in a rebuild.
As my HabsAndLNH colleague William Nadeau reports, the Penguins' new owners, Fenway Sports Group, would like to secure both Letang and his compatriot Evgeni Malkin for the duration of their careers.
There is about $23 million in cap space left and the Pens need to sign, in addition to Letang and Malkin, Rickard Rakell, Evan Rodrigues and backup goalie Casey DeSmith. Kasperi Kapanen and Danton Heinen are the team's pending RFAs.
