When Johnny Gaudreau signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets, it shocked the hockey world.

Gaudreau, after deciding to leave the Calgary Flames, was destined to sign close to home in New Jersey, Philadelphia, or Long Island. Instead, in a puzzling decision, he chose Ohio.

Now, that decision is already looking tough. In the Blue Jackets game against the Buffalo Sabres, they allowed a staggering nine goals, including five from Tage Thompson.

Following the loss, the sentiment was clear:

The embarrassment was felt from top to bottom, I was told today by someone with the organization. And the players themselves, of course, having a players-only meeting after the game. But the reality is, this isn't going to fuel GM Jarmo Kekalainen to go out and make a bunch of trades to try and get the team out of the bottom of the standings to salvage the year. The reality is they've had massive injuries, they're too far down, they've dug too much of a hole (in the standings). They are going to take their lumps. Now they're not going to come out and say that publicly, but the reality is this is a special draft, as we know, at the top in June, and that's really the focus now for Columbus aside from the development of their young players

Another revelation then came out. Johnny Gaudreau's father had been mic'd up by TNT's crew.

Definitely not an impressive performance by the Blue Jackets, who are looking like their rebuild is closer to the start than it is the end.
