Montreal Canadiens forward Michael Pezzetta has played his first NHL season in 2021-2022.
In an interview with the Canadiens web team, he looked back on this incredible season for him:
"I managed to get my foot in the door. I played 51 games with the Canadiens. Now the question is, where do I want to go from here? Do you want this to be your legacy, or do you want to continue to develop your game and define who you are in the NHL? For me, every off-season is the most important of my life. I signed a one-way contract in July, but I don't get much out of it if I just sit on my hands all summer. It was an important summer to work and make sure I could try to solidify my place in the NHL and for the rest of my life."
Clearly, Pezzetta is eager to make his mark, again, in training camp:
"I'm really looking forward to getting back into the game. Summer is always fun, and you spend a lot of time working on yourself, but there's nothing better than coming to camp and trying to earn your spot and compete against the other guys. I'm a competitor and I like to play physically, so it's good to get back into those things. It will definitely be a fun training camp. We have a lot of forwards and a lot of players right now, so it's going to be competitive and exciting. I'm getting ready for it."
Finally, how is his summer of training going?
"I've been working out at a gym in Etobicoke and skating with guys like Barrett Hayton (Arizona), Jeff Skinner (Buffalo), Taylor Hall (Boston), Andrew Mangiapane (Calgary), Sam Bennett (Florida) and Jamie Oleksiak (Seattle). I also have a shooting mat in the backyard that I've been using for six or seven years. I like to spend time on it. It's good to get a break from stickhandling and off-ice shooting. It's kind of my relaxation space. I can go outside, be in my head and practice. It's helped my game a lot." For more details:
