That's because it's been reported the Knights could be trading one of their top defensemen Alec Martinez, here's why;
The Golden knights recently re-signed Michael Amadio, and Logan Thompson to league minimum money.
But the biggest extension came with the Golden Knights re-signing defensemenBrayden McNabb to a three-year contract extension. The deal will run until 2025 and will pay McNabb an average annual value of $2.85 million.
Now with that extension of Brayden McNabb who was in the final year of his contract paying him $2.5 million annually, will now make $2.85 million.
Alec Martinez who's set to return to the team makes $5,250,000 annually, on top of that the Vegas Golden knights don't have salary cap space.
The Golden Knights also need to get some cap space cleared for the most anticipated in short history of the Golden knights franchise super star center Jack Eichel. He is set to be almost ready to join his new team.
Golden Knights GM Kelly McCrimmon believes defensemen Brayden McNabb can replace defensemen Alec Martinez, giving McCrimmon the option to trade Martinez to unload his salary.
Meaning teams that have cap space can get a solid defensemen and won't cost nearly what it could have for a player like Martinez. Possibly for a pick or prospect in return.
