According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, if the Philadelphia Flyers want to trade James van Riemsdyk's, the surplus they would have to give to other teams is a first-round pick in 2023.
So it would look like this:
To "fictional team": James van Riemsdyk and 2023 first round pick
To Philadelphia: Future considerations
It's understandable why Chuck Fletcher wouldn't want to pay that amount to move his 33-year-old winger's big contract, which earns $7M through 2022-2023.
Last season, van Riemsdyk had 38 points in 82 games with Philadelphia.
