Forward Johnny Gaudreau signed a seven-season deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday night, but Elliotte Friedman confirms it wasn't his first choice.
Gaudreau wanted to sign with the Philadelphia Flyers, but they are in trouble with the contracts of James van Riemsdyk and Ryan Ellis.
Chuck Fletcher decided it was better to fill other holes in their lineup than spend all their money on Gaudreau.
The Flyers believe John Tortorella can make a difference and the players will have a fresh start under him.
