We learned earlier this summer that the Arizona Coyotes have paid the $5 million bonus owing to forward Phil Kessel and since Rick Tocchet (who had a special bond with Phil) has left, Kessel is now officially on the transfer market and his days in Arizona are limited.

The Coyotes are wondering whether another team would be interested in him for next season at $1 million.
This means the team that buys him will only have to pay him 1 million dollars for the next year.

Moreover, given Arizona's desire to move him, any transaction would certainly involve a 50% salary cap hit. (3.4 million for the mass and 1 million for Kessel's "actual" pay)

Kessel is a power play expert who can make a difference in a 5 man offence.

He has averaged 25 goals and 64 points/82 games over the last three seasons.
Goals (20) in 56 games (2021). He hit 900 points last year.

His age is 33.

AZ Coyotes Insider's Craig Morgan says Kessel has requested a trade, but the league isn't interested in him.
"I think the Coyotes would be pleased with a 3rd round pick for Phil Kessel right now."

Would you trade a 3rd round selection for a player of this caliber?
Kessel's contract expires in 2021-22.
