Things are Going Very Bad in Chicago, and it's Not on the Ice

On the ice, the Chicago Blackhawks are awful. After committing to a full rebuild, this was expected; especially after the team traded Alex DeBrincat and Kirby Dach. Johnathan Toews and Patrick Kane can only do so much, and it's a trainwreck whenever the team steps on the ice.

However, no matter how bad things have gotten, their die-hard fans have always filled the seats. From the prosperous times, when they won three cups in five years, to the tougher times, when they were at the bottom of the league, Blackhawks fans have always been among the most loyal in the league. That is, until now.

Attendance in Chicago is way down, and it shows how badly the team messed up by trading fan favourite young pieces. Fans can understand trading a veteran for assets in a rebuild, but trading a 24-year-old 40-goal winger and a 21-year-old former third overall pick doesn't please many.

Only selling out 82% of their normally packed arena is reason to worry a little bit. Maybe fans weren't ready for a rebuild of this magnitude. One can only assume that things will get worse when Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews inevitably change threads for the first time in both of their careers.

We will see how it unfolds in Chicago. Hopefully things will turn around soon, and fans can go back to cheering for a team to be proud of.
