It has been reported before that a massive deficiency in the NHL market was the willingness for players to play for Canadian teams.

Between the brutal winter weather, and the fact that 90% of their income would fall in the highest Canadian tax bracket, it is much more desirable to play for an American team.

This could be one of the main reasons that it's been nearly 30 years since a Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup, and it doesn't appear to be changing any time soon.

Chicago Blackhawks defenceman Jake McCabe requested a trade last month, after growing fed up with the losing culture in Chicago. A new bombshell, however, has showed that a trade for McCabe may be more complicated than initially expected.

NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman has revealed that McCabe's seven-team no-trade clause likely includes all seven Canadian teams.

While the Edmonton Oilers have been the main contender in the McCabe sweepstakes, it now looks highly unlikely.

Elliotte Friedman says he's not convinced D Jake McCabe wants to be in Canada at all, and his 7 team no trade clause may be every Canadian team.

The Oilers have interest, but it's unlikely it happens. Friedman isn't convinced he has any interest in waiving his NTC to go to Edmonton.

This means that Edmonton will have to look elsewhere, such as Joel Edmundson or Vladislav Gavrikov to fill their defensive need. It equally means Chicago may get a lesser return.

It will be an interesting story to watch.
