Eric Staal is currently a free agent. A team looking to add depth to their forward group could use his services. He excelled on the Canadiens' fourth line after being traded from the Buffalo Sabres last season. He may do so if he joins a new team. Between the two teams, he had five goals and 13 points in 53 games. It's hard to argue with his experience, which is always a plus.
Montreal Canadiens: If the Canadiens can fit Staal in while staying under the salary cap, it may be worth revisiting. His leadership made him an excellent addition to the Habs at the end of last season. He had two goals and eight points in 21 games during the postseason. With Corey Perry gone this off-season, they could use Staal as a mentor.
Carolina Hurricanes: The Hurricanes have plenty of cap space and could easily re-sign their former fan favourite. It would be incredible to see him return to Carolina, where he is a beloved historical figure. He helped them win the Stanley Cup in 2006 and could help them win again this season. Also, it would be awesome to see him play with his brother Jordan one last time.
