A veteran of nearly 1,300 NHL games, Kessel has had a solid career including now three Stanley Cups in his resume, is still without a contract.
The 36-year-old winger has been primarily known in his career for his shot and speed and with age his speed has taken a significant hit.
According to NHL Insider David Pagnotta, two teams are currently looking to clear cap space to add him to their rosters:
Kessel would most likely sign a one-year deal with any team that will bring him in.
Kessel was primarily known for being with the Toronto Maple Leafs, which now seems like decades ago since he was on the Leafs.
Never making it to the cup final and failing to have true success the Leafs traded Kessel away to Pittsburgh. Little did Leaf fans know that would be the best thing for Kessel's career.
Since leaving the Leafs, Kessel has won three Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Vegas Golden Knights.
Now at the tail end of his career sits 12th all time in points by an American-born player with 992 points in 1286 games.
Kessel has been a fan favorite in the league for many years, the teams that are interested in the one they call "Phil The Thrill" is unknown but Kessel might be joining the 1000 point club this season.
