What would it cost for the Maple Leafs to land Patrick Kane?
Patrick Kane has narrowed his team of choice to just two options, the New York Rangers, and the Toronto Maple Leafs. With the Rangers looking less and less likely, it looks like Kane will be a Toronto Maple Leaf.
With this news, Leafs media immediately jumped on the case. With that, Sportsnet and Nick Kypreos discussed what it would cost the Maple Leafs to acquire Patrick Kane:
Due to his $10.5-million cap-hit, the Sportsnet team believes a third team will be necessary to retain. This could cost as much as a third round pick since the participating team has significant leverage.
As for Kane, it's definitely a first-round pick+, but we are unsure what else it would take. Kyle Dubas needs to also make sure Patrick Kane re-signs with the Maple Leafs for cheap after this year.
It's hard to imagine Patrick Kane in blue and white, but it could very much be a reality come March 3rd.
