Brendan Shanahan controversially bans drink
The Shana-plan by Brendan Shanahan has been in effect for almost five years. The Leafs haven't advanced past the first round of the playoffs during that time.
It's safe to say that Shanahan's management is getting increasingly frustrated, but a reporter has suggested that the players may be feeling the same way.
A Toronto reporter's friend revealed some of Shanahan's peculiar strategies on TikTok.
The Leafs have been using the same goal song for five years, to start. Even though many people are sick of the Hall & Oates song, it seems like Shanahan's kids are the reason it's still popular!
One that assuredly frustrates the players is the restriction of beer in the locker room. We've seen players like Mitch Marner be showered in water after big milestones, while we are certain they would rather be showered in beer.
This definitely makes Ilya Samsonov nostalgic for the beer-shower he shared with Alex Ovechkin after every win in Washington.
The underlying comedy in this is that Shanahan was a pretty dirty player when he was in the league. Finishing his career with over 2500 PIMs, he likely experienced his fair share of locker room beer!
We will see if the Leafs go all the way this year. If they do, maybe these tactics work!
