The hockey league was stunned on Saturday because during a VHL game between Sokol Krasnoyarsk and Rubin Tyumen -- which featured Maple Leafs prospect Valdimir Bobylyov saw a fan tragically passing away.
The news was relayed by Hockey News Hub on X.
It's speculated that the fan passed away due to a potential acute heart failure or pre-existing condition. There is no news on the personal details of the deceased, but team medical officials did what they could to try and revive the fan.
The game continued on with Rubin Tyumen coming away with the 2-0 win over Krasnoyarsk. Rubin Tyumen currently sits third in the VHL standings.
It was a terrible tragedy that no doubt affected the players involved. One of them was Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Vladimir Bobylyov.
Bobylyov, 27, has been a long-time prospect for the team who hasn't yet signed with the team, who still hold his rights.
He has yet to have a shot in North America as he remains unsigned, but is part of a draft class that saw Toronto draft Joseph Woll; but he also joins a group of players who have yet to play at the NHL level.
Drafted in 2016 (122nd overall), Bobylyov has bounced around between the KHL, VHL, and MHL in his career.
This season with Rubin (VHL), he has 16 goals and 18 assists in 51 games. In his career, he has 80 goals and 95 assists over 350 games with time spent in the VHL, MHL, and KHL.
