The unprofessional journalist who first broke the news of Johnny Gaudreau's passing has officially been fired from his job.

News of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau's passing has been all over the media since this morning, confirmed by an official statement from the Columbus Blue Jackets and the NHL:

"The National Hockey League family is shocked and saddened by the tragic passing of Columbus Blue Jackets forward Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew. While Johnny's infectious spirit for the game and show-stopping skills on the ice earned him the nickname Johnny Hockey,' he was more than just a dazzling hockey player; he was a doting father and beloved husband, son, brother, and teammate who endeared himself to every person fortunate enough to have crossed his path." [...]

However, during the night, "journalist" Dylan Robillard of "Flyers Nitty Gritty" broke the news before any concrete proof was available to the public.

In journalism, waiting for credible sources to come out before posting news is necessary, especially when it's such a significant matter.

His employer made an official statement, saying that he was let go for what he did:

Robillard continues to face a lot of backlash, including a comment from renowned reporter Tony Androckitis, who wrote on X:

"A tip to aspiring sports journalists:

Some things just aren't worth being 'first' to report.

When it comes to the tragic death of an athlete, & to a lesser degree retirement from the game, just let the player/team/family release a statement & be the source to share that news.

You can have your story written and ready to release as soon as it becomes official.

There's literally nothing to gain from making that info public before it's appropriate."

Robillard also shared that he received a lot of negative comments on social media, including death threats and hate messages:

What he did is unacceptable, but people sending him hate on social media are going too far.
