For the first time in nineteen years, the Toronto Maple Leafs are playing in the second round as they began their series on Tuesday night against the Florida Panthers. Unfortunately, the Leafs did not get the results they were hoping for, losing 4-2 to the Panthers. There were some positives to take from this game, including Leafs' top prospect Matthew Knies scoring his first NHL goal in dramatic fashion.

After the game, Knies spoke with the media and talked about how special it was to score his first goal at home in front of a sold-out Scotia Bank Arena.
Knies on his first goal in the NHL: "It's a surreal feeling, especially in the playoffs, in the home arena. Having Auston pass that to me, it was only fitting and just happy I could get one there." #Leafs

The Leafs are also, for the first time since losing to Montreal back in 2021, the odds-on favorite to win this series. Despite losing game one, they can look back to their last series against Tampa, where they also lost game one but won the series in six. I'm sure Leafs Nation would be happy with the same outcome.
