Possible charges revealed for Team Canada scandal members
The investigation into team Canada at the 2018 World Junior Championships is finally coming to a conclusion. TSN reporter Rick Westhead revealed some of the possible charges the player involved could be facing.
Rick Westhead Reveals Possible Charges From Hockey Canada Investigation
TSN reporter Rick Westhead, who has been at the forefront of this story longer than anyone else, gave a big update to the story today. He revealed that one of the players rumored to be involved, Alex Formenton, has not formally been charged yet. However, he could provide a possible scenario for the former Senators forward were he to face common charges with the other players.
"Several criminal lawyers who specialize in SA cases have told me over the past days they expected former 2018 World Juniors players facing prosecution for allegations in London, Ont., might face charges of SA and forceable confinement. Alex Formenton's attorney Daniel Brown told me today that the former Senators player has not been charged with either of those offences.
He declined to elaborate on what Formenton has been charged with.
If Formenton has been charged with common allegations, he faces a maximum 10 years in prison if he's found guilty. People convicted of SA a maximum of 14 years." - Rick Westhead
Formenton became the first player to turn himself in to London Police today.
Players Rumored To Be Involved In Investigation Removed From NHL Rosters
There has been more developments in the investigation as well. Three of the players rumored to be involved are Devils forward Michael McLeod, Devils defenseman Cal Foote, and Flames defenseman Dillon Dube. All three players have subsequently been removed from their team's rosters on the NHL app.
Three Players From 2018 Team Canada Removed From Official NHL Roster
The last player rumored to be involved in the investigation is Carter Hart. Like Dube and McLeod, he has taken an indefinite leave of absence from the Flyers.
All of this seems to point to Hart being one of the players set to face charges. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
