According to reports from reputable David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Bruins and Blue Jackets currently have an offer on the table involving defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov.
The Blue Jackets would receive a first- and third-round pick in return, among other things.
However, what is preventing the confirmation of this trade is the salary cap. The Bruins must move and are looking to trade Craig Smith.
Here is Pagnotta's explanation:
"The Vladislav Gavrikov trade may be nearing the finish line. According to my source, the Blue Jackets and Bruins have a trade in place (including a 1st and 3rd pick), but Boston needs to clear some cap space. One player I'm told they are shopping is Craig Smith. However, Columbus won't wait forever. It is understood that if another team comes along with a competitive/better offer, they could go that route. The ball (or puck) is in Boston's court as they try to make the $ work. The addition of Gavrikov could surely eliminate Boston from the Chychrun talk." -David Pagnotta
