While there has been no official word on Robertson's future with the team from team sources, it seems as though Robertson has mystifyingly fallen out of favor with the organization. Robertson has been more than adequate in his NHL games this season as he has 5 goals and 11 points in 24 games with the Leafs. That is perfectly acceptable production from a depth forward. However, he has been a healthy scratch in the Leafs last two games in favor of Pontus Holmberg.
Holmberg on the other hand has just a single assist in 11 games with the Leafs this season. Both players have averaged very little ice time with Robertson getting a little over 10 minutes a night and Holmberg getting just under 9. If the Leafs do decide to trade Robertson though, their trade target remains a mystery. However, one team that has already indicated a willingness to trade could have interest in the 22-year-old.
The Columbus Blue Jackets have consistently been one of the worst teams in the NHL this season. As a result, they will likely be sellers at the trade deadline with a number of options for buyers like the Leafs to chose from. One option that might intrigue the Leafs the most is the captain, Boone Jenner.
He is currently on injured reserve but he is expected to be back before the deadline. Notably, Jenner has two years left after this one on his contract with a cap hit of 3.75 million dollars. That kind of cap hit should be manageable for the Leafs considering the salary cap is projected to go up substantially in the upcoming years. Jenner has 13 goals and 18 points in 29 games played this season.
