A trade proposal that sends Erik Karlsson to a division rival has emerged and has fans wondering if it is a real possibility.

Trade That Sends Karlsson To Edmonton Emerges

Last season, Erik Karlsson made history by becoming just the second defenseman to score 100+ points in the last 30 years. After winning the Norris Trophy on the underperforming Sharks, many fans have begun speculating on a trade that would send him to their favorite team.

One of the most recent trades sends Karlsson to Edmonton to pair him with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl and it is quite intriguing.

Trade Analysis

This proposal is intriguing for a multitude of reasons. First off it would make the most dominant offense in hockey even more dominant. Now to make this happen, what does Edmonton have to give up?

The package to acquire Karlsson includes a plethora of assets that includes current players and future players.

The Sharks should acquire two first round picks who they can use on whoever they want. They would also acquire Xavier Bourgault who was the 22nd overall pick in 2021.

In addition to these three future assets, the Sharks would get Cody Ceci and 2019 8th overall pick Philip Broberg. Both are defenseman and one would fill a current need in Ceci and one would fill a future need in Broberg.

On top of all of this, the Oilers would swap Jack Campbell in exchange for Kaapo Khakonen which would be an upgrade at goalie.

So why do the Oilers do this?

That is because it would pair the most dominant defenseman in hockey with two of the most dominant forwards in hockey.

The Oilers would also get Karlsson at a reduced rate which makes it all the more enticing for them.
