The Montreal Canadiens and the Anaheim Ducks are in the same situation: they're rebuilding and they won't make the playoffs this season. As the deadline looms, both teams will likely part ways with a few players that could play a role for another team in the playoffs.
In a new rumor, these organizations were linked to a top team, the Colorado Avalanche.
Anaheim would send Adam Henrique, one of this year's most coveted targets on the market, and get a first round pick, Calum Ritchie (drafted in the first round in 2023), the veteran Ryan Johansen and the prospect Sean Behrens from Colorado. The Ducks would also retain 50% of Henrique and Allen's contracts.
Montreal sends veteran goalie Jake Allen, who has struggled lately but could still be a reliable number two in the playoffs, and receive a 2026 third round pick from the Avs.
If that trade happens, it would solve to main issues in Colorado: goaltending and forward depth.
The Candiens could finally offload a goaltender, after having dealt with three goalies all season.
As for the Ducks, they'd get valuable prospects, a great pick, and a veteran.
