John Tavares Breaks his Silence on his Demotion
John Tavares was recently shifted down to the third line for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Now, he has shared his surprising take on his demotion.
John Tavares Reveals His Thoughts on Playing for the Leafs Third Line
John Tavares has been the leader of the Leafs since he signed his contract to come home. He has consistently performed, however, there is no question that he is beginning to slow down with age. Now, Tavares has been placed on the Leafs' third line with Nick Robertson and Bobby McMann, and he shared his thoughts on the demotion.
"The team has been playing pretty well, so Keefer just wanted to kind of keep things rolling and [McMann and Robertson] are two guys who have obviously made great impacts for us all year and certainly have been playing some good hockey as of late... A great chance for me go out there and impact the game and help make them better and find chemistry with them too."
Tavares, being a true professional, has nothing but positive things to say about the current direction of the team, showing how much he cares about the Leafs. He is correct, as well, as Robertson and McMann have both stepped up to the plate this season and shown that they can excel in the NHL when given the opportunity.
Tavares on Third Line Is Win-Win Scenario for Him and Leafs
The Leafs have struggled to find their solution to having depth down the middle of their roster this year. Max Domi took a little while to find his groove with the Leafs, but has seemingly found his stride. With Tavares at 3C, the Leafs have effectively distributed their top talent so that they always have a good scoring threat on the ice.
Sheldon Keefe has found something that works with his current lines, as demonstrated by their current win streak. We will see if these lines can continue to build their chemistry, and if this is how Keefe will roll into the playoffs.
