Today, it was officially announced that the St. Louis Blues had signed RFA's Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway, one week after both received offer sheets which the Edmonton Oilers decided not to match.
Immediately after the announcement was made by the St. Louis Blues that they had successfully signed Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg, a trade between the two teams was also announced.
The 2023 5th-round pick Paul Fischer was traded to the Edmonton Oilers for future considerations. The Oilers also get the Blues 2028 3rd-round pick as part of this trade. The 19-year-old defenseman just finished coming off a 16 point season with Notre Dame.
The Oilers are sure going to miss having Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg on their team. Both players were first-round draft picks, with Broberg being selected 8th overall in 2019 and Holloway going 14th overall in 2020.
Philip Broberg has played in 81 games with the Oilers and has scored two goals and added 11 assists.
Dylan Holloway played in a few more games overall than his teammate, having suited up in 89, and scoring nine goals and nine assists.
The Edmonton Oilers did well all things considering as it appears they have now stock-piled quite a bit of draft picks when combining what they got for the two offer sheets and now this trade, and to top if off they also got a prospect. Not too bad of a job by Stan Bowman.
