Frank Seravalli announced significant progress in the Arizona Coyotes' possible relocation to Salt Lake City.

Earlier today, we reported that the NHL started to plan for the Coyotes' relocation, in the event that they can't buy the land on which they want to build an arena.

Salt Lake City emerged as a top contender to get the Coyotes if they relocate.

According to Seravalli, the Coyotes, the NHL, and the Smith Entertain Group made "significant progress" on a relocation agreement.

"BREAKING: Sources tell Daily Faceoff that the NHL, Arizona Coyotes & Smith Entertain. Grp have made significant progress on the framework of an agreement to relocate #Yotes to Salt Lake City, Utah.

#NHL memo updated Governors today.

NOT done. Many layers and lawyers. Much work to do."

While it hasn't been confirmed, the fact that there is progress to report is great news for the people of Salt Lake City.

Before it actually happens, the NHL's board of governors would need to approve the decision. Their next meeting is set to go down in June, but they could decide to meet online before that.

The NHL likes to have backup plans, and they don't look like they're so sure about the new arena in Arizona anymore.

Details and updates will follow.
