On Friday, the pending criminal case against Milan Lucic was officially thrown out, which had fans and analysts questioning if the veteran could make a return this year, and now the Bruins have revealed the answer to that question.
Boston Bruins reveal their stance on Milan Lucic's future
Despite the case being dropped, the Boston Bruins have revealed in a statement that Lucic will not return to the ice for the team at any point in the 2023-24 NHL season.
«Milan Lucic will remain on indefinite leave from the organization for the remainder of the 2023-24 season. The Boston Bruins organization supports Milan and his family as he continues his personal rehabilitation.»
As that post points out, Lucic is on a one-year deal with the team he broke into the NHL with, and at 35-year of age with his play declining, this could potentially mean the end of Lucic's career.
Over the past few years, his physical play has declined, with only 43 points in his last three years to show for it, so unless the Bruins keep him on as a veteran beyond this season, there's no guarantee that we will see the enforcer on the ice in the NHL again.
