The Carolina Hurricanes hosted the Colorado Avalanche tonight. It was a seemingly normal game until the end of the 1st period when the Avalanche scored twice in just seven seconds.

Avalanche Take Advantage Of Goalie Gaff

The Hurricanes were up 3-0 heading into the final minute of the 1st period. Then, newcomer to the Avalanche Zach Parise scored with under a minute left to cut the lead to two for Carolina.

At this point nothing odd had happened. It was a pretty nice goal from Parise as well. However, the next one would not be. Following the faceoff at center ice, Avalanche defenseman Sam Girard went to chip the puck in from the neutral zone, but he inadvertently caught Kochetkov sleeping as the puck sailed right into the net.

Brind'Amour Pulls Kochetkov Following Goal From Neutral Zone

With the goal coming with just a few seconds left in the 1st period, Kochetkov finished the frame. However, he was replaced in net by Antti Raanta for the start of the 2nd period. Making matters worse if the fact that the Avalanche only had 8 shots on goal for the entire period, including the chip shot by Girard that likely wasn't even intended to go on net.

Antti Raanta leads the #Canes back out to the ice for the second period of play.

Pyotr Kochetkov is out after allowing two goals in the final 27 seconds of the first period, including the late gaffe.

His night will end with two goals against on eight shots.

It's a tough lesson for the young goalie, but one that he will not soon forget.
