This year Berggren wanted to change the way he played the game by becoming more selfish. He is a pass first type of guy, thinking for his teammates whereas this year to better himself, he wanted to think more for himself.
Here are Berggren's stats this season in the AHL compared to his fellow swedish teammate, Lucas Raymond in the NHL:
It seems like Berggren doesn't have the self confidence in himself to excel at the NHL level. The talent and the stats don't like, Berggren can very well make an impact at the NHL level however he doesn't exactly feel that way in his game. At times he makes plays that will make everyone around him besides himself.
He's a great playmaker, he can play in all areas of the ice and be an offensive force, driving play where he is needed to. He can be a force multiplier on ice and that speaks well to his skills.
Berggren's own lack of confidence seems to contract his own play, as he willed the Grand Rapids Griffins to home advantage through the 1st round of the AHL playoffs.
More details to come.
