According to a new report, the Edmonton Oilers have serious interest in forwards Travis Konecny and Scott Laughton. The two Flyers have had their names in the rumor mill for quite some time now, but nobody has been expecting them to end up in the same place.
The Flyers recently hired Daniel Briere as their General Manager, and he's made it clear that it's his intention to rebuild this team. Having already traded away the likes of Kevin Hayes and Ivan Provorov, it only makes sense that Konecny and Laughton are next.
While we're sure the Oilers would love to add two incredibly good top-nine pieces to their roster, it won't be cheap to do so. The Flyers have already rejected a first-round pick in exchange for Laughton's services, and Konecny has consistently produced at an even higher rate than Laughton.
If the Oilers plan on acquiring both of these players in a trade, we would expect that they'd have to send a roster player the other way, as well as a first-round pick and a prospect.
A potential package could include defenseman Evan Bouchard, a 1st round draft pick, and prospect Xavier Borgeault in exchange for Konecny and Laughton. This would make sense for both sides and certainly set both teams up for success.
