Major controversy erupted today in Edmonton upon hearing that the organization had just hired Stan Bowman, former GM of the Chicago Blackhawks who was fired by the team after hearing about his involvement in the Kyle Beach 2010 case. Today, fans found out that Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and other prominent players had absolutely no involvement in this hiring and were never consulted, and they are extremely upset at this revelation.
It's extremely shocking that elite, franchise, heck even generational players like Connor McDavid were not even consulted or asked to give any say on how they feel or who they believe should be hired.
Take Leon Draisaitlfor example, who is a UFA at the end of next season. He wasn't even asked what his thoughts were. Is that a gesture that is going to make him want to re-sign with the team? Clearly the organization doesn't care what its own players think!
Social media platforms blew up today with angry Oilers fans, as many couldn't believe the club left their star players in the dark. Can it get any worse in Edmonton? Losing game 7 of the Cup finals a few weeks ago, players left in complete darkness, and now a hoard of angry Oilers fans. This is becoming a PR nightmare in Edmonton.
