Former Leaf benched and demoted just one week after being traded and given a chance on the top line with new team
The New York Islanders paid a steep price for Pierre Engvall.
Only one week after making the deal, it looks to have aged very badly.
Engvall Demoted to the Fourth Line
The Toronto Maple Leafs were able to swing a 2024 3rd round pick from the New York Islanders for Pierre Engvall.
While by no means the deal of the century, it gave the Leafs an asset for a player almost certain to be scratched in the playoffs.
The Islanders started Pierre Engvall off strong, playing on the first line with Bo Horvat and Anders Lee, but only one week later, he is now patrolling the fourth line, being replaced by rookie Simon Holmstrom.
Pierre Engvall was benched for eighteen minutes between shifts in the game. That's definitely a bad sign.
It's never good to jump to conclusions, but it looks like the Maple Leafs destroyed this trade!
