Hockey fans had circled the date on their calendar. With Matt Rempe's history against the New Jersey Devils, it was widely anticipated to see a major fight break out, and it happened two seconds after the start of the game.
Rempe dropped the gloves against Kurtis MacDermid, Kevin Bahl did the same thing with Barclay Goodrow, John Marino with K'Andre Miller, Curtis Lazar with James Vesey and Jacob Trouba with Chris Tierney.
Even coaches Peter Laviolette and Travis Green screamed at each other from their benches.
After the wild scene, eight players were ejected, four from each teams.
After the game, head coach Peter Laviolette shared his thoughts on the incident.
Laviolette was asked by reporters if he saw it coming before the game, considering the history between both teams:
Then, he was asked to comment on his discussion with the other coach, Travis Green. His answer had to whole room laughing:
The rivalry between both teams has often give spectacular shows, but this one will be remembered for a long time. Frustration from both sides towards the other grew over the season and it boiled over last night.
This will be the end of it for this season, as the Devils won't qualify for the playoffs and no games between them are scheduled for the rest of the season.
