During the first place Rangers day off on Sunday following their 4-3 shootout win over the Florida Panthers, Matt Rempe was at JP's Sports & Rock Solid Promotions, likely there for his photo shoot as he gets his rookie card. To celebrate, there was a meet and greet with the big man himself! Fans were over the moon!
Yet things went wild when someone brought a snapshot of Nathan Bastian after Rempe accidentally laid him out during his debut against the New Jersey Devils.
The Devils responded by snagging Kurtis Macdermid from the Colorado Avalanche. In their rematch, a 3-1 Rangers win on March 11th, Rempe got ejected for a hit on Jonas Seigenthaler, landing him a four-game suspension.
Macdermid, being the tough guy he is, tried to square off with Rempe, but the rookie opted for the referee's protection instead.
It didn't sit well with Macdermid, who openly expressed his disappointment.
Now, here's where it gets wild: When Rempe saw that photo of Bastian, he didn't just brush it off. He signed it and jokingly mentioned that he might "accidentally" bump into McDermid next time they face off on April 3rd.
Rempe's gaining quite the reputation as a tough cookie in the NHL. Yes he will make mistakes but is poised to learn from them
Unfortunately antics like this cross the line. Sure, he brings physicality to the game, but let's hope he doesn't take the rough stuff too far.
