Matt Rempe burst onto the scene for the New York Rangers in his rookie year, and after a recent suspension, he opens up on what he learned during that time.

The 21-year old Rempe made an immediate impact in his New York Rangers debut when he dropped the gloves on the massive Stadium Series stage, and he hasn't slowed down since.

That has been part of Matt Rempe's downfall however, as he was handed a four-game suspension for an elbow to the head of New Jersey's Jonas Siegenthaler.

Matt Rempe has been suspended four games for elbowing Jonas Siegenthaler.

Now that his suspension has been served, Rempe opened up on the important lessons that he learned during the time he was away from the team as he looks to move forward and solidify himself in the lineup as a rookie;

«More control of my body, just stuff like that. If a guy is pulling out of a hit, just got to be careful. It was an accident. I thought I was going to hit the wall Never want to see a guy get hurt or anything

It was clear early on that Rempe was simply looking to make his mark in the NHL, and now that he's done that, he needs to tone it down and be much smarter with his body, for the sake of his health and his future, as well as the safety of others.

Despite learning these lessons, Matt Rempe will reportedly continue to be a healthy scratch after coming back from the suspension.

The Calgary native has shown that he's more than capable of impacting a game with his body, as well as making plays on the Rangers fourth line, but with the team looking to make a Stanley Cup push, they need him to learn these lessons quick if he wants to make his way back into the lineup. In 10 games with the Rangers this season, Rempe has tallied 1 goal and 1 assist to go along with his 54 penalty minutes, and if the Rangers can get him settled into the lineup they believe he can be very effective going forward.

Matt Rempe has been a healthy-scratch once since his return from suspension against Winnipeg, and with some key games coming up, it wouldn't be a surprise if he remained that way.

The team sit first in the Metropolitan Division, just two points ahead of the Carolina Hurricanes, and with the playoffs right around the corner, the last thing they want is a team taking revenge on them for Rempe and going after another player on their team, so it's a fine line he's now going to have to walk when he gets back into the lineup.
