Last night the Pittsburgh Penguins and Minnesota Wild faced off in what was a close match. The two teams went back and forth for the most past and things eventually got a bit chippy when Sidney Crosby laid a cheap hit on top Wild rookie Brock Faber.
Crosby has both his hands around Faber's head and his stick clearly hit Faber in the face as well. However, this was not deemed to be a penalty by the refs and they clearly gave Crosby preferential treatment.
The play was clearly dangerous and should at least warrant a fine from the NHL DoPS, if not a suspension.
Luckily for Faber, the Wild were able to get the last laugh as they defeated the Penguins 3-2 and Faber helped contribute to the scoring with an assist on the first goal.
Going into this season, the Calder trophy was Connor Bedard's to lose and while he is still the front-runner, there is a growing faction of fans that believe Faber does more for his team and is deserving of the award.
As a rookie, Faber is top 10 in average time on ice behind some truly elite defensemen. He is also the second most productive rookie behind Bedard as a defenseman and could potentially steal the award away from him.
