Kraken Forward Accuses Former Team of Ruining His NHL Career
Quite possibly one of the greatest tales of redemption in the league, Jared McCann has become a star. His road to get there wasn't easy, however.
McCann Calls Out the Canucks
Jared McCann was a contentious player throughout most of his early career.
Drafted 24th overall in 2014, he was rushed into the NHL by the Vancouver Canucks as a D+2, which gave him terrible results.
Due to this, he was shipped off to Florida. After underperforming in Florida, he was sent to Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh then gave him away for nothing to the Maple Leafs, who left him exposed in the expansion draft for the Seattle Kraken.
40 Goal Plateau for McCann
Now 27, McCann's career has entirely rebounded. He hit the 40-goal plateau for the first time this season, and has cemented himself as a star in Seattle.
This considered, however, the way the Canucks developed McCann could have ruined his career entirely, as he has now disclosed in an interview:
"I could've used a year in the AHL...I think they did give up on me early, I really do. Mentally, it affected me a lot. [I] was in a dark place."- Jared McCann
While it took him nearly a decade to become an NHL star, McCann has a very bright future ahead of him. We doubt he dwells too much on the past anymore.
