It is not too often that a 3-time norris trophy is available on the market but that is the case in the NHL as Erik Karlsson is available for trade. Among the teams interested in the Swedish defenseman is the Pittsburgh Penguins.
What the Penguins Offer looks like
Kyle Dubas has been staying busy at his new job with the Penguins and looks to add a massive piece to their roster.
The current trade speculation looks something like this.
PENGUINS Receive: Erik Karlsson ($9 Million AAV)
SHARKS Receive: Pierre-Olivier Joseph, 2 1st round picks (likely lottery protected) and Mikael Granlund (probably flipped to a 3rd team) The Penguins would be giving up a lot to help try and get Sidney Crosby another Stanley Cup.
The Penguins Core
The Penguins core of Letang, Crosby and Malkin have all been together since Crosby got drafted and have won 3 cups together and missed the playoffs last year for the first time in 16 years.
Crosby is arguably a top 5 player off all time and would only make sense for the Pens to try and win the Stanley Cup every year that he is on the roster.
Whether or not this coming year has Erik Karlsson on the team has yet to be decided.
