Report: Maple Leafs Pushing For Erik Karlsson, But At A Steep Price
The Toronto Maple Leafs are actively in pursuit of one of the best defensemen in the NHL, in hopes of ending their struggles with their defensive core.
Leafs Targeting Karlsson
It has been reported that the Leafs are back and forth with the San Jose Sharks to get a deal done for the reigning Norris Trophy winner Erik Karlsson. With the acquisition of Karlsson, the Leafs' defensive depth would take a huge leap and their Stanley Cup chances would rise as well.
There are lots of more details to be worked out with the possibility of this trade, but there is an alleged blueprint idea of where to start.
Nylander To Headline Return Haul
In order to get Karlsson to Toronto, the Leafs would most certainly have to give up a star player in their offer. Out of their very strong youth core, it seems to be that William Nylander is the odd man out, making him the headline of their offer to the Sharks.
With Nylander facing struggles of his own with Toronto as both sides currently cannot come together on a needed contract extension, a trade is currently being explored by Brad Treliving and the front office.
The Leafs would definitely have to include more in the package for Karlsson, but if this is the starting point for an offer, San Jose would be crazy to not think about sending their most valuable defenseman to the North.
