It has been leaked by an insider that the Leafs and team superstar Auston Matthews have already agreed on a new extension to lock him up in Toronto long-term.
This brings a sigh of relief to all Leafs fans after almost no updates on the progress of talks between the two parties the whole start to this offseason.
The contract is believed to be 5 years or even less in length, but no financial terms have been released just yet.
It has also been reported as to why there has been such a delay in any updates with Matthews and the Leafs.
With the team also reportedly working on a trade for William Nylander due to a failure in being able to work out an extension for him, they are waiting until a move is finalized and completed to announce the extension for Matthews.
The maturity being given off by the Leafs in both of these respective situations is definitely a plus to look at as Leafs fans.
With the constant updates being reported about Matthews and Nylander, the best thing to do is to not get caught up in it all and wait until major and well-known insiders are breaking the ice.
But it looks like Brad Treliving may be taking initiative and giving the Leafs a new roster look next season with the goal of major improvement and hopeful Stanley Cup contention.
