Ryan O'Reilly is making progress toward his return to the Toronto Maple Leafs' lineup. On Tuesday, the veteran forward was on the ice early, working with the return-to-play staff to handle pucks and practice shooting. However, he ended his session before the rest of the team began their practice.

As part of the Toronto Maple Leafs' four-game road trip across the Southern United States and New York, Ryan O'Reilly joined the team in Florida. Despite the team taking a day off in Raleigh, North Carolina on Friday, O'Reilly took the ice for practice. Later, he participated in part of the team's morning skate ahead of their game against the Carolina Hurricanes. O'Reilly had been sidelined due to a broken finger sustained on Mar. 4, when he was accidentally hit by a shot from teammate Auston Matthews. Coach Keefe had originally projected a four-week recovery timeline, which would see O'Reilly returning in early April.
If O'Reilly is able to return next week, it would align with the original timeline. The Maple Leafs acquired the 2019 Conn Smythe Trophy winner from the St. Louis Blues on Feb. 18, along with Noel Acciari, in exchange for four draft picks (including a 2023 first-rounder) and players Adam Gaudette and Mikhail
Abramov.
