Morgan Rielly hasn't quite been the top-pairing defenseman the Maple Leafs have needed since signing his eight-year $60-million dollar extension.

With the playoffs looming, and the Leafs set to face some difficult competition, analyst Ailish Forfar on SN 590 has suggested that the Maple Leafs need to re-evaluate their usage of their highest-paid blueliner.

"I just can't find the answer for Morgan Rielly - and that's what's frustrating... it shouldn't feel like need to find the answer for a player that's going to be here long-term.

[Reilly] is a guy that you've put a lot of investment into, but this season has been a question mark around how to amplify and elevate Morgan Rielly and they've been able to do that with other players. Is T.J. Brodie the 'fix' for Morgan Rielly? Having to 'fix' a player is [tough], especially for someone [who will have a long-term impact] for the Maple Leafs"

The fact this conversation needs to be had about the former fifth overall pick is worrying, but with the depth the Maple Leafs have on the blueline, they have options.

The only question is, will Kyle Dubas bring him down the depth chart?

We sure hope so.
