Auston Matthews ill during last night night's 4-2 loss to the Bruins
Toronto Maple Leafs' superstar Auston Matthews was ill last night for the third game against the Boston Bruins, when they lost 4-2 in front of their fans.
According to Chris Johnston, Matthews played through an illness on Wednesday night. Apparently, this is also what forced him to miss yesterday's morning skate.
The insider Elliotte Friedman shared at the time:
"Sounds like Matthews is «taking the option,» and resting this am"
Here's what he wrote on The Athletic, when he discussed why the Leafs have better chances of winning game four of the series, next Saturday:
"The Leafs should also have top-line center Auston Matthews back in better health after he played through an illness during Wednesday's 4-2 loss. That explains why he was the only regular to miss the morning skate at Scotiabank Arena opting instead for more rest and helps account in part for a night when he didn't look like his usual explosive self though still logging another 23-plus minutes."
With an extra day to prepare for game four, the Leafs will hope that this will help the odds of seeing Nylander and Matthews back at 100%.
We saw the difference that Matthews can make when he's at 100%. In game two, he was amazing, but unfortunately, couldn't compete in that level for the third.
However, it's safe to say that the Bruins didn't make things easy for him.
Do you think the Leafs could win the next three games against the Bruins if Matthews and Nylander are back to 100%?
