Brad Treliving and the Leafs release statement on Johnny Gaudreau's passing

As the hockey world slowly tries to recover from the terrible tragedy that struck Johnny Gaudreau, the Leafs have issued a statement regarding this unthinkable act.

Fans around the league woke up to the terrible news that Columbus Blue Jackets superstar Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew passed away in a bicycle accident. The Gaudreau brothers were biking on the road when a drunk driver hit them from the back. Unfortunately, both were pronounced dead on the scene.

The Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving issued a statement regarding this tragedy. He was clearly devastated by the events that took place and took the time to offer his very best wishes to the entire family.

The drunk driver, identified as Sean Higgins, is facing two counts of causing death by driving under the influence, and can face more than 20 years behind bars, as well as a fine up to $400,000.

Johnny Gaudreau was getting ready for his sister's wedding that he was set to attend less than 24 hours after this tragedy struck. Reports have now come out that the wedding has been canceled, as the family tries to grieve over this senseless act.

Johnny Gaudreau was gearing up for his third season with the Columbus Blue Jackets. In his most recent season, he played in 81 games and scored 12 goals, and had 60 points. Fans of the team are going to be heartbroken when the season starts without his presence. It's definitely a monumental loss.

We wish the entire Gaudreau family our deepest condolences and we are all thinking of you during this very difficult time.
