Craig Berube spotted having private discussion with Mitch Marner
Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube was spotted having a conversation with Mitch Marner in public today.
The sighting has Leafs fans both buzzing and questioning what the lunch could mean for Marner, if anything. The superstar winger has been heavily involved in trade rumors since the Leafs were eliminated from the playoffs this year.
What are they talking about?
NHL insider David Pagnotta has linked Marner to several teams including the Blackhawks, Stars, Golden Knights and Predators. However, we have not seen any other sources linking Marner to these teams, aside from the Predators, who have consistently been linked to Marner recently.
That being said, Predators general manager Barry Trotz more or less shot down the idea that the team was looking at trading for Marner. Last week he traded defenseman Ryan McDonagh to the Tampa Bay Lightning, opening up 7 million dollars in cap space, leading to further speculation that he was going to make an offer for Marner. He dismissed the idea as rumors.
His response is pretty hilarious and he shrugged it off as «just rumors.»
Given the way things are going, it seems like there is a very real chance Marner will remain a Leaf despite all the rumors. Be sure to stay tuned with the Leafs over the summer as there could be major moves coming from the organization.
